Key Stakeholders Lay Foundation for 2016 – 2021 Strategic Plan

    A one-day strategic planning workshop was held on June 10th, with leaders from provincial/territorial squash associations, national team athlete representatives, and national association board and staff members, to further the development of a Squash Canada 2016 – 2021 strategic plan.

    In January 2016, Squash Canada embarked on an 8-month project plan.  It engaged the expert services of Cathy Smart, of Smart Move Inc., to guide the organization through the strategic planning process illustrated below.

    In the June 10th session, the group forged the building blocks of a clear mission, vision, core values and tag line.  Being at the time of and a mere two blocks from the major sinkhole that opened up in Ottawa, the agreement was dubbed the “The Rideau Sinkhole Accord”.

    The Rideau Sinkhole Accord also spelled out what the expectations and responsibilities of Squash Canada are moving forward in conjunction with the expectations and responsibilities of the provinces and territories.

    Actions Moving Forward… Core Pillars to be fleshed out

    1. Increase overall awareness including social media; website; branding and promotion
    2. New national ranking program
    3. Increased funding including a national sponsor
    4. Increased communication and alignment with P/Ts.
    5. Development of pathways for athletes, coaches and officials including different stages of the long term player development model.
    6. Excellence in the high performance program

    Passion, pride and performance are evident ingredients as the organization continues towards a clear 5-year direction for the sport in Canada.
