(Ottawa, ON)—The 2014 Canadian Masters Team Championship took place over the weekend at the London Squash and Fitness Club. The annual event featured eight teams of 7 (4 men, 3 women) from across Canada and 140 matches over the action-packed weekend. This is a lighthearted event, with many of its’ participants returning year after year to compete and build friendships with other players from across the country.  We at Squash Canada would like to thank the London Squash and Fitness Club for providing great hospitality and entertainment for the participants, coaches and spectators over the weekend and for allowing this event to continue being such a success.

As the host province, Ontario was able to enter two teams. This worked in their favour as they captured both 1st and 2nd place overall. Ontario 1 consisted mostly of defending national team champions, and with an extremely talented Ontario 2 team, the final encounter between them turned out to be a hard-fought battle. Ontario 1’s Pam Monrad and former national team champion/Ontario 2’s Connie Sacchetto battled hard in a five game match. The games themselves were extremely close, with 3 of the 5 going to extra points and one in particular going to 18 points. The final match between Scott Kemp-Gee and Dave Morrish was the deciding factor to see who would be the 2014 Masters Team Champions. Morrish is the Squash Pro at London Squash and Fitness and had the hometown crowd on his side cheering him on. Unfortunately, he fell short to Kemp-Gee in their close 4 game match, closing out the tournament with Ontario 1 coming out on top. The final standings for the 2014 Canadian Masters Team Championships are as follows:

    1st Ontario 1
    2nd Ontario 2
    3rd Alberta
    4th Quebec
    5th British Columbia
    6th Manitoba
    7th Atlantic
    8th Saskatchewan

Squash Canada would also like to thank the referees for doing an exceptional job at officiating the tournament and ensuring that every match was covered. The event wouldn’t have progressed so smoothly without your hard work.
