The U.S., defeats Canada at men’s world team squash championships

    PADERBORN, Germany – The United States defeated Canada 2-0 on Wednesday in the round of 16 playoffs at the men’s world team squash championships.

    The seventh-seeded Canadians, who had gone undefeated in round robin play will now play for positions nine to 16 while the Americans, seeded eighth, continue their march into the quarterfinals.

    PADERBORN, Germany – The United States defeated Canada 2-0 on Wednesday in the round of 16 playoffs at the men’s world team squash championships.

    The seventh-seeded Canadians, who had gone undefeated in round robin play will now play for positions nine to 16 while the Americans, seeded eighth, continue their march into the quarterfinals.

    Andrew Schnell of Calgary, who had won two decisive matches in the round robin, lost the opener to Todd Harrity 13-11, 11-7, 7-11, 11-4.  Then in the battle of number-ones, Shahier Razik of Toronto lost a marathon to Julian Illingworth 6-11, 3-11, 11-2, 11-0, 11-5.

    In the other round of 16 matches: England (seeded one) defeated Hong Kong 3-0; Egypt (2) defeated Germany (16), 3-0; France (3) defeated Finland (13) 3-0; Australia (4) defeated Netherlands (14) 2-1; Malaysia (5) defeated South Africa (11) 3-0; India (6) defeated Denmark 2-0 and Italy (9) defeated Mexico (10) 2-1.

    Canada will play Germany on Thursday.  The quarterfinal match-ups are England-Italy; Australia-India; Malaysia-France; and the U.S. – Egypt.
