Markham (ON) – Mayfair Clubs is prepared to host the Women’s Junior World Team Trials. Running from May 7th– 10th, the trials will give eight individuals a chance to clinch two spots on the Women’s Junior National Team. The top two competitors will make the National Team, with the third place participant acting as the non-travelling reserve.

Running from May 7th– 10th, the trials will give eight individuals a chance to clinch two spots on the Women’s Junior National Team. The top two competitors will make the National Team, with the third place participant acting as the non-travelling reserve.
The trials begin today, in a two pool, round robin format. Each pool contains four competitors, with each player given a guaranteed three matches against their pool opponents, with the top two women from each pool advancing.

Upon completion of the round robin, a crossover will commence, with the top seed from Box A matching up against the second seed from Box B and the top seed from Box B versus the second seed from Box A. The winner of each match will advance to the Finals.
The outcome of the trials will determine the final two players who will earn a spot on the Women’s Junior National Team, joining Sophie Mehta and Madlen O’Connor as team members. Mehta and O’Connor had previously clinched positions on the team based on the National Selection Points Race. This race is an accumulation of points based off standings in previous tournaments over the course of the past two years.
Tournament organizer Richard Yendell will lead the girls to the Women’s Junior Team Championships as the Women’s Junior National Coach. The team will be competing in the WSF Women’s World Junior Championships, held in Eindhoven, Netherlands.
