Squash Canada announces the Club at White Oaks as host of the 2021 Canadian Junior Open presented by Forthlane Partners, which will be held December 11-14, 2021, in Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON. The Canadian Junior Open is the most prestigious junior squash tournament held in Canada and makes its return after being cancelled in 2020 due to the ongoing pandemic.  Registration is now open via Club Locker.

“We are very excited for the return of the Canadian Junior Open, one of the world’s premiere international junior opens”, said Dan Wolfenden, Squash Canada Executive Director.  “And with the help of our great partners The Club at White Oaks, it will return with a big splash.  New innovations for the 2021 Canadian Junior Open will include the addition of a U23 category run as a PSA Satellite event, and for the first time ever, will feature our new state of the art all-glass show court as installed in the tennis area. When coupled with our COVID-19 safety measures, which includes double vaccination requirement for all athletes, coaches, officials, spectators and attendees at the event, and the Province of Ontario’s impressive 82% of people 12+ being fully vaccinated as at October 7th, we believe we will be providing a safe and welcoming experience.”

Categories will include:

  • Girls & Boys U13/U15 – cap is 32 players per category
  • Girls & Boys U17/U19 – cap is 48 players per category
  • Women’s & Men’s U23 – cap is 16 players per category (to be held as a PSA Satellite event)
    • U23 Category sponsored by Rouge River Brewing

COVID-19 Information:

To provide a safe environment, in accordance with Squash Canada’s COVID-19 Vaccination Policy – Click Here (subject to change), all players, coaches, officials, organizers and spectators over the age of 12 in the facility’s squash section must be double vaccinated at least 14 days prior. Please review the policy for full details.

For our international visitors, please be advised that it is the traveler’s sole responsibility to be aware of and satisfy the Government of Canada’s COVID-19 safety requirements for entry into Canada, which could include vaccination and testing requirements. Please visit the Government of Canada’s travel page HERE for full information.

Also, at this time the provincial Government Ontario and public health authorities currently place a 50% restriction on capacity permitted in sporting facilities, including the host facility for the Canadian Junior Open. If this safety measure remains in place during the CJO, which appears very likely, Squash Canada will have to limit the number of supporters that can accompany an athlete into the squash section of the facility, to two additional people, including a coach. Families of travelers, therefore, may wish to consider this possibility when deciding how many supporters it may wish to have accompany an athlete to Canada.

Athletes may only be accompanied in the squash section by a 2-support person limit (ie. 2 parents or 1 parent / 1 coach) and may be in the squash area no earlier than 40 minutes prior to their match, and no longer than 10 minutes after their match, unless they are required to referee the next game.

Because of COVID restrictions there will be no special eating room with buffet meal tickets this year. People can make reservations in any of White Oaks’ restaurants.
