Women’s Team Set for WSF World Juniors

    Eindhoven (NLD) – Eindhoven is set to host the WSF World Junior Championships, featuring 18 countries from across the world. The tournament consists of a Men’s and Women’s Individual event and a Women’s Team event. The nations represented in Eindhoven (in alphabetic order) will be:

    Australia, Belgium, Canada, Egypt, England, Finland, France, Germany, Guyana, Hong Kong China, India, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand, South Africa, Switzerland, USA and Zimbabwe.

     Canada will be represented by the country’s top-ranked junior women, who will play in the individual and team draws. The Canadian team features Chloe Chemtob, Sophie Mehta, Madlen O’Connor and Grace Thomas. Tara Shannon is also traveling with the squad and will play in the individual draw.     The event begins on July 26th with the commencement of the Women’s Individual event. Chloe Chemtob, who is ranked 13/16, will receive a bye past the first round and will play the winner of the Eleonore Evans (USA)/Hiu Lam Lui (HKG) match. Sophie Mehta will take on Switzerland’s Marija Shpakova in the first round, while Madlen O’Connor will take on Australian Juee Bhide. Grace Thomas will play Julie Rossignol of France and Tara Shannon will take on Faith Sithole of South Africa. The Individual event will run to July 30th.

    The Team event starts on July 31st and runs to August 4th. Last year, Egypt went home champions in the Men’s Team Championships, held in Windhoek, Namibia. The Women’s Team event was not held last year, as it is hosted every second year. Egypt is the reigning champion of the last four Women’s Junior Team Championships, winning in 2013, 2011, 2009 and 2007.
