Squash Canada’s inaugural ‘Squash Day in Canada’ kicks off in communities across Canada on September 30th. All across the country, hundreds of private, community and university/college based squash centres will offer free events for anyone who would like to try squash for the first time and encourage regular participants to come out that day and share their passion for the sport.
Participating clubs will open their doors and offer a wide range of activities for people of all ages, including:
- Free court time
- Free equipment usage
- Free or discounted lessons
- Bring a friend
- Fun tournaments
“Squash is such a great activity that people of all ages can enjoy. We’re excited to share the opportunity for people to try out our sport and see for themselves just how much fun it can be,” said Dan Wolfenden, Executive Director, Squash Canada. “Clubs across the country will have equipment available and instructors on hand, so it will be very easy for anyone, whether they’re 8 or 88 to pick up a racquet and give squash a try. And if you haven’t played squash for a while, we look forward to reconnecting with you.”
Squash Day in Canada is a nation-wide event that will encourage Canadians to pick up a racquet, hit the courts and get moving as part of the ParticipACTION 150 Play List. Squash is #67 on the ParticipACTION 150 Play List, which encourages Canadians to try 150 activities this year in celebration of our country’s 150th anniversary. Participating in Squash Day in Canada on September 30th will be a great opportunity for Canadians to try a new sport and check off another activity on their personal Play List.
“The ParticipACTION 150 Play List is a physical-activity movement, inspiring and motivating Canadians everywhere to move more and sit less, and we are thrilled to have Squash Canada support us,” said Elio Antunes, President and CEO of ParticipACTION.
Squash Outaouais and their home club La Sporthéque are already signed up and ready to celebrate on September 30th. “We are excited to open our doors for Squash Day in Canada,” said Director and Head Coach Maxym Leclair. “This will be a great day for anyone who’s ever wanted to try squash – squash is fun, squash is fast, squash is exciting and we can’t wait to show everyone just why we love this sport so much”
Participating is easy! Canadians are encouraged to simply play squash on ‘Squash Day in Canada’, at a participating club/facility. Over 50 clubs from all provinces and territories will be offering free activities, making the sport more accessible than ever on September 30. People of all ages, experience, and abilities can take part.
